2. Tau Beta Sigma Project Restoration Archives
by Dollie McDonald, National Vice President for Special Projects, Tau Beta Sigma

I wanted to update and remind you all of our progress of our National Project of Restoration Archives!

I would like to first recognize the Western District & Midwest District and their efforts of purchasing an acid free box for all active and inactive chapters in their district! This past year, these two districts worked very hard and we appreciate the commitment to this National Project! I would also like to thank all of those who have donated to this project from across the Nation.

We still have plenty of opportunities for more chapters (active and inactive) to purchase boxes for petitioning documents for our archives!

For those of you who have not yet purchased a box for your chapter, please send check or money order, $20 (NO CASH PLEASE) to National Headquarters. If you have questions; please feel free to contact me at dolliemcdonald@tbsigma.org

Send check or money order for $20 (NO CASH) to:
Project Restoration Archives, Tau Beta Sigma

***Please be sure to indicate for which chapter(s) you are purchasing***

3. Chapter Installations and the First Year: An Opportunity to Be a Part of the Beginning
by Malinda M. Matney, Ph.D., National Vice President for Colonization and Membership, Kappa Kappa Psi

As we continue to install chapters of Kappa Kappa Psi, and as Tau Beta Sigma continues to install chapters, you have a vital role as Brothers and Sisters. The Installation is a fabulous opportunity to see the final moment of colonization and the first moment of active membership, and to lend your support to the challenges that will be ahead for the chapter. While we don't often have many weeks of lead time to let you know about installations, your presence when you can attend them provides a new chapter with tangible support as they move forward.

Newly installed chapters have several milestones ahead in the first year. The first times they conduct Ritual, the first events they host, and the first times they attend conventions as an active chapter are times to celebrate and make yourself available to assist. This is a time that is too easy to overlook as a time of growth, but your presence at these events affirms these new chapters as true members of the larger family of Kappa Kappa Psi or Tau Beta Sigma.

The celebration and work don't end at Installation -- they are only getting started. Help these new chapters become strong parts of the tradition that started with our founders 87 years ago this month

4. Tau Beta Sigma Awards & Chat Date

by Dawn Farmer, National Vice President for Communication & Recognition

December 1 is approaching quickly…do you know where your paperwork is? Every chapter needs to submit a Fall Activity Report to National HQ by December 1. Make sure you leave time to get all the correct information and signatures. There are many national awards with December 1 as their application deadlines ~ please submit your applications for these awards. Tau Beta Sigma is accepting applications for the Outstanding Service to Music Award, the Wava Banes Turner Award, the Paula Crider Award, the Service Certificate, the Johnny Vinson Award, Outstanding Chapter Sponsor Awards, and the Baton. If you know of outstanding alumni, active, or adult leaders that would be eligible for these awards, please nominate them. Information about awards can be found at http://www.tbsigma.org/awards.html. The Fall Activity Report can be found at http://www.tbsigma.org/forms.html. If you have any questions about awards, contact Dawn Farmer, TBS National VPCR, at dawn@tbsigma.org. Remember, every chapter participates in the National Awards Challenge!

Tau Beta Sigma is holding the next Student Chat on Wednesday, November 29 at 9pm EST. Please read the chat instructions on the tbsigma.org website and join our discussion. This month, we would like to talk about music education and how we contribute to it on our campus. As always, we will also entertain any comments or questions about any TBS subject, including any last minute questions about the Fall Activity Reports. If you have any questions about Student Chat, contact Dawn Farmer, TBS National VPCR, at dawn@tbsigma.org. Look forward to seeing you there!

5. 2007 National Intercollegiate Band
by Lt Col Alan Bonner, USAF (ret.), National Executive Director

I frequently have the opportunity to visit with chapters, either while on the road, or with those who come to visit the National Headquarters. I always look forward to 'story time' where we just sit and talk about stuff! I always try to encourage our members to try to attend the next national convention and perhaps, audition for the National Intercollegiate Band. It always amazes me that so many of our members of both KKPsi & TBS know so little about the National Intercollegiate Band, one of our most important national programs. Whether you are a music major or not, if you are a strong player you should definitly consider preparing an audition for NIB for next spring. Information about the 2007 National Convention to be held in Orlando, Florida next July, and the NIB application http://www.kkytbs.org/forms/NIB_Application.pdf, can be found on the national website at www.kkytbs.org. If you have any questions about the NIB, you may contact the NIB Coordinators, Dr. Rick Greenwood, KKPsi National VP for Professional Relations at rgreenwo@pegasus.cc.ucf.edu, or Dr. Greg Byrne, TBS National VP for Professional Relations at gpbyrn01@louisville.edu. No one should have any problem making contact with either of those national officers, but if you do, then email me at hqned@kkytbs.org!! We'll get you the information or answers you need! We want to have a terrific ensemble next summer to work with Professor Frank Wickes, the NIB Conductor, and Eric Ewazen who is composing and will conduct the 2007 Commissioned work!
