The Podium is Going ONLINE
from Nick Smith, National Publications Manager/Multimedia Designer
Brothers and Sisters,
The Podium, your National Publication has been through a lot in the past few bienniums. In 2009, the National Delegations voted to only send one print copy to each chapter and copies to band directors and life members only. This past summer at National Convention your publications committees wished to broaden the scope of your National Publication and try to distribute it nationally in new and innovative ways.
With that in mind, I have been at work creating a unique web experience for the Podium, a place where we can edit and publish almost all submitted articles (as opposed to only a fraction with our current print publications) as well as allow brothers and sisters to comment on, share and submit articles in an easy to use, modern and fun layout. More options will be added as we continue to develop this online system, but it is FULLY FUNCTIONAL and currently being tested for release on Monday, February 13. For now, you can go to http://podium.kkytbs.org and check out where the Podium will be on Monday and sign up for announcements using the little form in the bottom right-hand side of the page. There's plenty to check out currently, and we'll be adding more information each day leading up to the release, as well as announcing different things through our facebook page and twitter feeds.
Lastly, some of you may be wondering what's going to happen with your print publication. The Podium will still be printed twice a year (Spring and Fall) but will now be condesnsed to articles from your National Officers as well as special, longer op-ed pieces from students and alumni as well as feature more images and a sleeker design more akin to National Magazines. The print version of your publication is going to continue to grow and adapt to modern standards as well as be put into an easily-readable flip magazine online on the Podium Online, similar to the one currently on the website. So no worries, your print publication will continue to be produced and sent out to you all as has been the procedure the past few years.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the Podium or any of the changes currently happening, simply contact me, your Publications Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will be happy to answer you! Till, then, check out your Podium Online now (at http://podium.kkytbs.org) and prepare for your new and improved publication coming on Monday at Noon! And don't forget - articles for the Podium must be submitted prior to May 1st to be considered for the Fall print version!
