"Elite: Among, Across, and Afar"

1. Elite: Among
    1. We as individual members of Tau Beta Sigma need to be both knowledgeable and happy in regards to our membership. Each district officer will be responsible for ensuring that all activities and projects related to their office are effectively communicated to the members of each chapter. This does not mean solely communicating with their corresponding chapter officer, but finding means to reach all members. We are each an important part of our chapters, and regardless of your status as an officer or not, you should feel that you have the knowledge and resources that you need to further advance your membership.
    2. Specific goals:
        1. Effectively communicating with all members of the district. I have learned, in the past year, how to communicate with Sisters the way that they need. Some of my VPMs needed one-on-one emails, some needed calls or texts. I'd like to apply this same plan to all members of the district.
        2. Electronic access to each District Officer’s files for review as well as transitioning all officer files to e-files rather than old binders.
        3. Continued up to date information on the Northeast District website, not just on the listserv
        4. Set District Officer emails (i.e. TBSNEDPresident@yahoo.com) so that upon passing office, it is easier to keep track of how to correspond.
        5. The NED District Officers shall have for review by any member, a database of any and all relevant information for their office.
        6. Work with the NED Secretary to create a Tau Beta Sigma NED listserv (using Google, the title of moderator can be passed to each president for year to year, and I can add members instead of waiting for the "invitation process of yahoo". Google also offers a very advanced documents section). I will encourage all Sisters to remain a part of the joint listserv and encourage everyone to subscribe that to that listserv as a weekly digest to decrease the flow of daily emails.
        7. Work with the NED Parliamentarian to create a document that encompasses some of the most important information from Roberts Rules of Order. If we locate the information most useful to our Sisters, this will create a much more effective resource than asking each Sister to read through a large and confusing book.

2. Elite: Across
    1. Members across each chapter, and we as individual chapters should feel confident as united, effective forces in our band programs and surrounding communities.
    2. Specific goals:
        1. Chapter workshops, done by district officer and/or the chapter presidents; written cohesively by the chapter president and district council, if specific chapters are experiencing problems in any way, we need to go out there and help show them how to fix the problem. If traveling is not an option, the president may lead the workshop or the district officers may engage the chapter in open online or phone chat sessions.
        2. Area workshops: this was a goal from the 2008-2009 NED Council that never got off the ground. Ideally, district officers will find a time (before or after the marching season) to get a few chapters together and work on a few leadership tactics for the chapters in his/her area.
        3. Comprehensive district notifications to each chapter. When each chapter receives information in small pieces, it often gets confusing or lost. When comprehensive and detailed emails/mailings are sent, it is easier for all chapter members to understand the message (i.e. information about conventions, etc.).

3. Elite: Afar
    1. Upon initiation into Tau Beta Sigma, you become a part of a much larger dynamic than just your chapter: the district and nation. The key to a chapter or member’s success lies in pulling your knowledge from these two other realms of the Tau Beta Sigma world. The ability to effectively communicate with, learn from, and share with other chapters across the district and nation exponentially broadens a Sister’s potential and a chapter’s possibilities.
        1. Each chapter shall have a working website.
        2. Each chapter will be encouraged to make a visit to at least one other chapter (within reason).
        3. Each district officer will be asked to make a visit to at least one other chapter.
        4. Continued growth of the duties of the NED Alumni Secretary
        5. Development of the proposed NED Historian.
        6. Use the NED Presidents Facebook group to lead discussion forums. This was very successful this past year with the VPMs.
        7. Use of the NED Facebook group- starting discussion forums for all to post and see how each chapter differs or is similar.
        8. To distribute to each council member the comprehensive list of charges from the convention committees as well as relevant information from the previous years' One on Ones.
        9. Work with the NED Treasurer to allocate and collect money that can be used specifically to help chapters be able to travel- particularly to conventions.
        10. Work with the NED VPSP to effectively communicate the importance of Project Protect Music, its purpose, and effective ways to carry out this district-wide initiative.
