This past year our chapter has grown
in numbers and in knowledge. We started
out the year with a pledge class of 17 new members and one honorary
member. This all but doubled our
current chapter in size. All of our new
members were and still are very eager to learn all about Tau Beta Sigma. Over
the course of the school year we have done our usual service projects such as
distributing marching band uniforms, and then checking them in after an
extended football season, as our team ventured into the playoffs. Our Perspective Member class cleaned Cook
Hall, our music Building, from top to bottom, scrubbing every inch. All of us have padded our service hours by
helping out in our band office with copies, filing, and paperwork. We are now helping out our band program with
serving at our Jazz Festival Invitational of the state of Illinois Jazz Bands,
with Maynard Ferguson as our feature performer. The following weekend we will be hosting our State of Illinois
Concert Band Festival.
We have done some
fundraising projects this year such as our Band Day Table, when we host the
State Of Illinois Marching Band Festival.
This is where we work a table selling T-shirts, sweatshirts, boxer
shorts, CD’s, buttons, magnets, keychains, etc. This past semester we did a bake sale, and are looking at doing
another one with a used CD sale added in, and we are also hosting a euchre
tournament.
Our social events haven’t
been too shabby either, when in the beginning of the year we hosted the
marching band formal and also did a pasta dinner with our chapter. This semester we held a sock hop, and we are
looking at having a picnic with all of our alumni and their families, and also
a camp-out to end the year.
