Membership Committee

The Membership Committee was charged with reviewing the 1999 Membership Committee Final Report, developing a basic continuing education program for both Actives and Alumni and listing ways of support for future colonies of the North Central District.  For actives we discussed quizzes before rituals, actives helping the membership candidates learn TBS information, and the updating of membership manuals.  For alumni we discussed improving alumni address bases, sending out newsletters and getting alumni involved with the active chapter.  We conclude that the most effective way to interact with the alumni was to hold an Alumni Weekend in which many activities occurred.  Some activities were a ritual, a game to refresh memory of TBS information, joint activities with KKY alumni, banquets, and performing with the band as a whole.  Some possibilities for weekends are Homecoming, Graduation, or another important weekends in the college’s year.  Some things that were stressed were the necessity to include alumni and actives in education activities.  Activities of this kind can educate both actives and alumni and at the same time make it easy to keep track of your alumni. Also, it is encouraged that this occasion becomes a tradition that the alumni can expect and plan for in advance.  As a result, chapters will more effective in keeping in touch with their alumni.  It is recommended that the Alumni Weekend occur either once a year or every other year depending on the chapters budget.

We also talked about colonization on the North Central District level.  We concluded that it is very difficult to know which colleges have a TBS or KKY and which ones do not.  We are charging the 2001 membership committee to find an effective way to inform active chapters of un-colonized schools.  This can even be extended to schools that don’t have a band program.  We are also charging the 2001 committee to see that Alumni involvement is carried out throughout the chapters and more effort is made towards colonization.

A joint discussion was held with Kappa Kappa Psi membership committee in which the North Central District Alumni Association gave a presentation about increasing alumni involvement.   They suggested sending postcards to alumni and having alumni functions throughout the year.  In conclusion, this committee talked considerably about alumni involvement and education.  We hope the chapters leave with some good ideas and an increased enthusiasm for alumni functions.
