Joint Publications Final Report

North Central District 2000

The committee was charged with the following:

  1. Read and review the final report and charges from the 1999 Joint Publications Committee.
  2. Review all bids for the 2001 Kadenza publication and develop a slate for vote by the Joint Delegation.
  3. Review the District’s allotted reimbursements to the school publishing Kadenza and make recommendations to the Finance/Ways and Means Committees.

The committee reviewed the charges and final report from the 1999 Joint Publications Committee.

The committee reviewed the allocation of $600 to the publishing school, and made a recommendation to the Ways and Means Committees to allocate $400 total. This decision was based on changes recommended to both Jurisdiction Committees and approved.

The committee made the following changes to the district handbooks:

  1. Under bidding for Kadenza, No.2: “Bids will be presented to the delegation…” rather than “Bids will be presented to the joint committee…”
  2. Under Bidding for Kadenza, No. 7: “…District Vice President of Special Projects and District Vice President Programs…” rather that “District Vice Presidents.”
  3. Under Publishing the Kadenza, No. 8: Remove sentence “The committee recommends that each mailing should include a request for any change in membership numbers.”
  4. Under Publishing the Kadenza, No. 8: Remove parts ‘a’ and ‘b’. Move parts 1,2,3 and 4 up to parts a,b,c and d.
  5. Under Publishing the Kadenza, No. 8: Change “$600” to “$400” based on recommendation of Jurisdiction Committee.
  6. Under Publishing the Kadenza, No. 9: The Kadenzas should be distributed to the following groups:
  7. Under Publishing the Kadenza, No. 10b: Remove this statement.
  8. Under Subscriptions, it should read:

1.      Anyone not covered in the above specifications can request a subscription.

2.      Subscription cost is $5

3.      Subscription period is August 1- July 31

4.      A subscription can be made at any time during the year.

The committee discussed the future publication of the Kadenza, and recommended that beginning with 2001 NCD Convention, the Kadenza be exclusively published via the Internet.

The reasons:

·        Funding: NCD can make more effective use of limited funds.

·        Accessibility: The Internet is more accessible to members and more convenient than relying on one hard copy.

·        Host opportunities:  Some chapters may be limited by printing services in an area.

·        Save Host Chapters:  With the addition of web requirement, the host chapter’s duties were doubled.

Motion:  I move that beginning with 2001 NCD Convention, the Kadenza be exclusively             published via the Internet.

The committee made the following charges:

            For District Officers—VPP and VPSP

·        To promote the use of Kadenza.com at block meetings

·        Update the handbook

·        To change the bid sheet reflecting changes that will occur on the Kadenza; revise the questions to address the bidding school’s web publishing capabilities

To next year’s publication committee:

·        Review the process of maintaining a domain name. (Kadenza.com)

To next year’s Way’s and Means:

·        Allocate $100 for District’s maintenance of the domain name

After reviewing the bid, the 2000 Joint Publications Committees slates the Alpha Beta and Epsilon chapters of Butler University as publishers for the 2000-2001 publication year.
