2001 Final Report
Vice President of Programs
Scott Mackey
Okay
now that I feel better… Let’s do this… In general this is a disclaimer for the
rest of this report. Two years ago I
walked into Toledo University as a prospective and said, “yeah, this is cool.” One year ago I walked into UC and said,
“Damn can I do this.”
And
as I’m looking at so many of you today I’m saying to myself, “Damn I did
this.” I may not have always said the
right thing or checked my email frequently enough, but there in is the realization
that no one is perfect, and certainly not I.
Okay
now that that is over… Let’s talk about romping. Summer function this past year was a tremendous success having
one of the largest ever. Brothers and
sisters engaged in romping, mustard-covered grass, missing OSU Flags, and long
canoe rides with Pete Rauchenstein.
Even though the alumni won the softball game, there is still the fact
that Trudy was ump and went active with most of the members on the alumni
team. My sincere thanks to our to Michelle
Debuck with doing a great job of leaving me with all possible contingency
plans. Whether in Ohio town, in the
love van watching South Park, playing cards, techno music do do do do or of
course the rompers, everyone had a romping good time.
Over
my time in office I worked to expand the importance of brotherhood and
tradition in the district. In my
attempt to do this I’ve had the great pleasure to visit with several chapters,
BG, Butler, Louisville, Purdue, and OSU, and even OU for a short time during
their homecoming game, not to mention visits for block and Retreats. I would have loved to visit more of you and
thanks for the hundreds of memories, including finding my glasses in a
poli-eyes box, the bulldog statue, and Euchre in the Band Lounge. You guys all rock.
This
year there was a little bit of an age difference in the district officers. I being by far the baby of the group found a
central part as being the odd one out in a lot of circumstances, but we as
individuals in a group made it through.
Adam,
I wish you the best in your life after graduation and in your engagement and
wish we could have made it to get that bucket we keep talking about, I wish I
could have known you better.
Ryan,
I’m very happy for you and Jen. You are
a very lucky guy to have such an understanding wife. I know you will be a great band director and be able to give
those great band director lectures that never seem to end, I’m glad you finally
got your phone back my roommates apologize for calling the 1-900 numbers. IN similar fashion I wish that there had
been the time for us to get to know each other better.
Doug
– as I took over your past position I hope that I did a good enough job, we
have a long line ahead of us of amazing VPP’s.
I wish you and Holly the best; again I’m sure you’ll be a great band
director. I know you and Ryan have been
extremely busy with your student teaching this semester, you guys have both
done a good job with getting all your stuff done. Again, I wish there had been more time for us to get to know each
other.
Malinda-
Thank You. I’m sorry I never felt like
I lived up to expectations of me. The
year was over before I knew it. I
appreciate the millions of questions that you answered for me. You are an invaluable asset to this
district. I’ve loved swapping hugs when
both of us have been stressed. I’m not
sure what else to say, your understanding and patience with me spasticness
shows how lucky we are as a district to have you as our governor. I wish we would have had another year at this,
I think I was just starting to get the hang if it. But it’s time for a new council and one more group of brothers
that you will help to grow in a greater understanding of the purposes and mood
into goal oriented motivated brothers.
Thank you for your help to me the help to this council and the help you
are and will continue to be to the North Central District. And I’ll drive you back to Michigan any time
your car breaks down.
To
my Bro’s of Epsilon Xi – It’s all right there…. Go bucks…. Thank you for your
support of me. There is no other
chapter that I would rather be a part of.
Epsilon Xi is my home and I’m looking forward to getting to spend more
time with you before I embark to Australia.
I’ll leave you with two other life’s lessons you’ve taught me in my
tenure as a brother, sorry three.
First… Frisbee hit by tree….Blues Brothers and Animal House can answer
any fraternity problems… The Kappa
Kappa Psi is not a club, but a fraternity of brothers.
To
Rebecca Lynn- Thanks red for your patience, understanding, and love.
Last
in my list of Thank you, I need to go “Back to St. Louis”
Shortly
after arriving I ran in to brother Charles Hass trying to call home to my
parents, my phone card wouldn’t work and he gave me his so I could call home, I
knew at that point that there must me something to this district brotherhood…
Later I ran into Charles and HR again with a glum look on my face he said,
“Scott, how are you doing?”. When I
told him that I was trying to figure out how to get involved in the district,
he invited me to lunch with him and HR.
After my conversation was over I was ready to take on any issue or
problem and have the constant goal to eventually become a district officer and
serve the brothers while beginning to internalize this district brotherhood
that Charles and so many others had shown me.
I decided to run for district office.
I felt better, and did my best to be myself and endeavor to do my best
at representing the goals I had for a term in office. Charles, Amy, Doug, Susan, Ishi, Bradbourne, Rose, Pookie, HR,
Kent thanks for your constant support and encouragement when I doubted what I
was doing. You guys always knew the
words to say to get me back on track and put things in perspective. YOU guys have become some of my favorite
people and best friends and hope that we will continue to stay in touch.
I
wish Schmacks could have been here today, He has been my role model for as long
as I can remember, I love him dearly and will always be my brother squared.
And
thank you brothers of the North Central District for sharing with me the
amazing chapters in this district, you all have amazing traditions, wonderful
people, wonderful ideas. My last charge
for you is to share those with each other even more and experience the strength
of the brotherhood.
