PERCUSSIONISTS NEEDED for NIB.
We had a wonderful response for the 2001 NIB except for percussion. We have extended the deadline for percussion to May 15. Tapes should be submitted directly to me, Al Sergel, NWMSU BANDS, 800 University Drive, Maryville, MO 64468.

We would appreciate any help you can offer to encourage your best percussionists to submit at tape.

FYI 2001 National Intercollegiate Band
The NIB will take place in Corpus Christi, TX, July 22-24. Each member will be provided three nights housing, a luncheon with the conductor and commissioning composers, an NIB polo shirt and 2001 NIB CD. We are very proud of this outstanding national project. ” The 2001 NIB conductor will be Bryan Shelburne, US Army (Ret.), former Leader and Commander of the US Army Band in Washington D.C. Our 2001 commissioned composer is Timothy Mahr.

CHAPTER SUMMARY REPORTS
DUE JUNE 1st. Just a reminder that your chapter officers should be gathering the data and information to complete this important national requirement. YOUR SIGNATURE is required as well as a written endorsement. The form and contents are covered in the 1999-2001 KKY Chapter Operations Handbook (pages 29-33). This report is one of the major documents used in determining Chapter leadership awards. Remember it should be postmarked on or before June 1st.

Matching Grants 2001-2002
This financial assistance program for supporting guest conductors and guest artists with your college concert bands will be continued. As you make plans for the next year please be aware that you can obtain $500.00 from Kappa Kappa Psi if you are willing to complete some paperwork. The grant application is on the national website and these are approved at the national council meetings which occur in late July and mid –January. Deadlines are twice a year July 1st and January 10th. If you want a grant for the fall 2001 please take a look at the website. WWW.KKYTBS.ORG. Those desiring a FALL GRANT must apply by July 1.

2001 NATIONAL CONVENTION
We have a very exciting convention planned and we invite you to attend. Headliners are Dr. Lautenzenheiser on becoming better leaders and role models and Brett Sokolov on hazing and the law. In addition, Bryan Shelburne will do a conducting workshop, Tim Mahr and Julie Giroux will discuss composing and eight of our sponsors/directors will conduct our reading band. And we will have the Warner-Robbins Air Force Band perform. As you can see besides having some fun we want this to be an educational event. July 25- 28, Omni Bayfront, Corpus Christi, TX.

THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!
I hope each of you how important you are to the success of the chapters on your campus. I truly hope you understand the importance of giving some of your time to support, communicate, and mentor your chapter. They consider it an honor to serve your band. This will be my last issue of the Condensed Score as my term of office expires in July and a new KKY VPPR will be appointed for the 2001-2003 biennium.
