February 2001

Greetings! I hope your spring semester has been enjoyable. It is great to be in full swing with our concert bands. During this time most of our chapters should be working with probationary members and I hope you will support them in this important activity. Your participation can provide and ensure that new members understand our important role in serving the bands and being positive enthusiastic role models. Attending the rituals can be a very positive way of indicating your support and interest in the fraternity. Your guidance and involvement with your chapter is greatly appreciated.

AUDITIONS for the 2001 National Intercollegiate Band.
We are very proud of this outstanding national project. The 2001 NIB conductor will be Bryan Shelburne, US Army (Ret.), former Leader and Commander of the US Army Band in Washington D.C. Our 2001 commissioned composer is Timothy Mahr. I hope you will encourage your best musicians to audition. Membership in KKY or TBS is not required to participate. The NIB will take place in Corpus Christi, TX, July 22-24. Students can submit an audition tape or CD to the National Headquarters before April 21. The application form and audition requirements are on the National Web-Site (
www.kkytbs.org/nib.html) and listed in the Fall 2000 Issue of the Podium. The NIB 2001 performance dates are July 22-24, 2001 in Corpus Christi, TX. Students can also audition at their District Convention this spring.

Ticheli Columbine CommissionPublished.
“An American Elegy” is now available and is a powerful piece. The work is very accessible technically, but be ready for a very emotional and musical performance opportunity. KKY is proud to be apart of this outstanding service project and commission organized by the Alpha Iota chapter.

KKY National Officers at 2001 National CBDNA Convention in Denton.
Many of our
KKY national council and board of trustees will be attending this convention. We look forward to seeing many of you and having a chance to visit with you.

District Conventions Spring 2001
Each spring every district holds a convention. These are excellent and provide a great way for our members to learn more about the fraternity, meet members from other chapters, and gain better ways to serve their bands. Please consider this a personal invitation to attend. If the convention is close, consider attending for a day. I know how much your chapter and the district would be thrilled to have you there.
