Fall 2000

Greetings! I know we are all busy and thus a “brief” FYI! Thanks for all you do in serving and helping our chapters in building/maintaining our wonderful college and university bands.
We want Kappa Kappa Psi to provide your bands with the services, finances, and social activities that are meaningful and important to the program’s success.
We want to encourage you to sit down with your chapter and the leadership and have them write down their goals for this semester. Have them consider their service projects, fund raisers and membership recruitment. And when possible, please let the entire band program know your appreciation of their contributions to the band.

IMPORTANT FALL DEADLINE
Your Chapter President should be gathering the information and the treasurer collecting the dues for the Chapter Personnel Report. This will include the $50.00 chapter fee and the $60.00 individual member fee. This should be postmarked on or before September 30 unless schools begins after September 15 and should include your signature.

French Riviera Summer 2002
We are sponsoring our first National Intercollegiate Marching Band ( NIMB) for KKY and TBS members. The trip for 7 days will take place during June of 2002. Reservations are being taken through the National Headquarters.

Matching Funds/- Grant Program for 2000-2001.
I encourage you to apply for this financial support ($500.00) for guest conductors and performing artists with your concert bands. Applications for spring 2000 will be approved in January, and funds are available. Contact the National Headquarters for the application. This is a new program to help finance your concert band activities.

2001 National Intercollegiate Band.
We are very proud of this outstanding national project. The 2001 NIB conductor will be Byran Shelburne, conductor for the United States Army Band in Washington, D.C. Our 2001 commissioned composer is Timothy Mahr. The NIB auditions will be held in the spring of 2001 and the performance dates are July 22-24, 2001 in Corpus Christi, TX. See the Fall 2000 Issue of the Podium for details.

Director of Bands Survey Spring 2000.
The collated results of the survey were presented to the National Council this summer at our July meeting. Thanks to everyone who participated. Major points include improving communication through technology, continuing and creating more commissioning projects especially consortium, and educating members to be the best role model. If you would like a copy of the report email asergel@mail.nwmissouri.edu

Best Wishes for a successful Fall. AEA
