3. Tau Beta Sigma Presents OSMA to Dr. Andrea Strauss
On behalf of the National Council of Tau Beta Sigma, it is my pleasure to announce that the Outstanding Service to Music Award was presented to Dr. Andrea Strauss April 20th, at the Georgia Tech Symphonic Band Concert. Many of you may remember reading about her accomplishments in the Spring Podium.
The Outstanding Service to Music Award is one of the landmark contributions Tau Beta Sigma has made to the world of college and university bands. It is a unique award designed to honor women who have made a significant national contribution to bands through outstanding musicianship, composition, or other means of distinguished service.
Dr. Andrea Strauss exemplifies the purpose of this award! She holds the Bachelor and Master of Music Education degrees from the University of South Carolina with an emphasis in clarinet performance, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education with a minor in Conducting from the University of Southern Mississippi where she studied conducting with Dr. Thomas V. Fraschillo. At the Georgia Institute of Technology, Dr. Strauss supervises the band program and music minor degree program, conducts the Symphonic Band and wind chamber ensembles, teaches wind literature, music theory, clarinet, conducting, and assists with the Marching Band. Under her leadership, the Symphonic Band has performed for the Southern Division College Band Directors National Association and National Band Association Conference, and the Georgia Music Educators Association Convention. Dr. Strauss has presented her dissertation research at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention, and has had articles published in the Music Educators Journal, The Podium, and the National Band Association Journal.
Dr. Strauss is an active conductor, clinician, and adjudicator throughout the United States, Ireland, and Canada and has conducted in Italy for the III Stage Internationale per Direttori D1Orchestra di Fiati. She has been presented with the National Band Association Citation of Excellence and the Women Band Directors' National Association Scroll of Excellence. Dr. Strauss has been presented with the Georgia Institute of Technology College of Architecture Outstanding Faculty for Education and Practice Award and was selected into Omicron Delta Kappa. She has taught instrumental music at the elementary, middle, high school, and college levels in Georgia. Dr. Strauss is currently a clarinetist and assistant conductor of the Cobb Wind Symphony, and the Tara Winds Community Band, both of which have performed for the Mid-West Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago, Ill.
It was my honor and privilege to present the Outstanding Service to Music Award, on behalf of the National Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, to Dr. Andrea Strauss.
Congratulation emails can be sent to: andrea.strauss@music.gatech.edu
I hope you will take a few moments and congratulate Dr. Strauss for her wonderful commitment to bands and Tau Beta Sigma!
Sincerely,
Deborah L. Baker
Immediate Past National President

4. Kappa Kappa Psi Presents A. Frank Martin Award to Dr. Robert Grechesky
Brothers:
It was an honor on 2 April 2006 to present the A. Frank Martin award to Dr. Robert Grechesky, Director of Bands of Butler University.
Kappa Kappa Psi's A. Frank Martin award was established in 1984 to recognize regionally known band directors and laymen who have made contributions to the band field. The award is named after A. Frank Martin who served as the first Grand President of the Fraternity from 1919-1921. Martin served in the position of National Executive Secretary from 1939 through 1964.
Dr. Grechesky has been a member of the faculty of Butler University since 1973. In that time, he has directed all of the various band ensembles of Butler University, and has also served as artist in residence at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Dr. Grechesky's various other professional endeavors as an educator, conductor, and arranger have spanned across multiple bands and genres.
Dr. Grechesky has inspired many students across the nation to become better performers, energetic educators, and life long patrons of band music. His passion for music education and for bands specifically is apparent in his students and alumni. His promotion of Kappa Kappa Psi, and of Tau Beta Sigma, is strong. Our members at Butler University stand out among the top musicians in the band program, thanks in large part to Dr. Grechesky's inspiration.
Dr. Grechesky is active in premiering and featuring new works for band and wind ensemble, having premiered over twenty works with his own ensembles. It was fitting that his award was presented as part of the Butler University Wind Ensemble's concert entitled "A Gathering of Composers," featuring a variety of works created specifically for wind ensembles.
On behalf of the National Council of Kappa Kappa Psi, congratulations to Dr. Robert Grechesky. A special thank you to Alpha Beta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi for nominating Dr. Grechesky.
