CONN-SELMER UNIVERSITY UPDATE
March 20, 2005
THE
COUNTDOWN CONTINUES - 11 Weeks to CSU
This
past week was bustling with activity surrounding Conn-Selmer University. There
were many inquiries from people planning to attend and registrations continue
to be received......to date we have people from 12 different states registered.
We are extremely excited so many people will be joining us this summer!
CLINICIAN'S
CORNER
Message from Dr. Paula Crider
The
Conn-Selmer University is a one-of-a-kind experience that is guaranteed to make
a difference. The knowledge and insights shared at this event will prove
invaluable to the music educator at any level. One of the most profound values
lies in the opportunity to not only interact with nationally recognized
clinicians, but to also share ideas with attendees from all levels of
experience and from varied parts of the country. I have enjoyed a musical
career spanning almost 40 years, and I came away from the CSU experience with a
renewed sense of enthusiasm and hope for the future of music education in
America.
I
encourage you to attend this remarkable event. It may very well change your
life!
Following
a distinguished 33 year teaching career, Paula Crider has earned the high honor
of having been granted the title of Professor Emeritus at The University of
Texas in Austin, Texas. She has served as guest conductor, lecturer or
adjudicator in 34 states, Canada, Ireland, Australia, Italy, and the United
Kingdom. Professor Crider is a Past President of the National Band Association,
and serves on the board of directors of the American Bandmasters Association
and the Sousa Foundation. She has taught in public schools at all levels and
during her tenure at The University of Texas, Professor Crider conducted the
Symphony Band, the Longhorn Marching and Concert Bands. Prof. Crider has
written numerous articles for The Instrumentalist, The Band Director's Guide
and the National Band Association Journal. She has published manuals for Brass
Techniques, Marching Band Methods and Instrumental Conducting, and is co-author
for the Hal Leonard "Masterwork Studies" series, a text for high
school bands. In 1995, Ms. Crider was inducted into the prestigious American
Bandmaster's Association. Ms. Crider was only the third woman to be so honored.
Awards and honors include two "Eyes of Texas" awards for teaching
excellence, the Tau Beta Sigma Outstanding Service to Music Award, the Sudler
Legion of Merit, and the Texas Bandmaster's Association Lifetime Achievement
Award, and the Women Band Director's International Golden Rose Award. Professor
Crider was recently named the 2004 Texas Bandmaster of the Year.
WHAT
IS A SKULL SESSION?
It
is not nearly as frightening as it sounds; this is the part of the CSU
curriculum past participants cite as one of the highlights of their experience.
Skull sessions take place at the end of the day when the clinicians make
themselves available for informal discussions with participants. This is your
opportunity to spend time with some of the most respected experts in their
field and ask questions of specific interest relevant to your situation. This
is networking and learning at the highest level.....don't miss it!
